Cursor open-sources Mixture-of-Kittens (MoK) under the Apache-2.0 license.

Requires NVIDIA Blackwell SM100 or SM103 GPUs (GB200/GB300 NVL72 racks).

Delivers up to 2.37x faster MXFP8 forward pass performance.

Minimizes CPU-GPU synchronization to resolve communication bottlenecks.

Cursor has officially open-sourced Mixture-of-Kittens (MoK), a deterministic Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) training megakernel, available on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. The software is engineered to squeeze maximum performance out of cutting-edge hardware infrastructure.

However, the hardware requirements for MoK set a high barrier to entry. It demands NVIDIA Blackwell SM100 or SM103 GPUs, translating to GB200 NVL72 or GB300 NVL72 rack ownership or rental. Furthermore, it requires Python 3.12+, PyTorch 2.10+, and CUDA toolkit 13.0+, with inter-GPU buffers relying heavily on PyTorch symmetric memory.

This hardware threshold restricts realistic adopters to organizations with substantial capacity, such as frontier labs, funded model startups, GPU neoclouds, and national computing centers. Single-node teams and standard 8-GPU shops are left out of the equation.

The introduction of this specialized megakernel highlights a shifting paradigm in large-scale AI training, where communication overhead within a rack often supersedes raw compute limits. By minimizing reliance on integrated Grace CPUs inside massive 72-GPU NVLink domains, MoK addresses the critical synchronization bottleneck that traditionally plagues massive MoE model scaling.

Applications remain narrow yet high-value, encompassing pretraining and post-training of DeepSeek-V3-style MoE models, on-policy RL post-training, and internal ablations where determinism is critical. Relevant sectors span AI model development, cloud GPU infrastructure, code-generation tooling, and quantitative research.

Stock photo for illustration only, not from the actual event

In production environments, communication historically served as the primary limiting factor, with the MoE layer consuming over half of end-to-end training time. Transitioning to GB300 NVL72 systems alters this dynamic by enclosing 72 GPUs inside a single NVLink domain for fine-grained overlap, though the slower integrated Grace CPUs still necessitate aggressive minimization of CPU-GPU synchronization.

2.37xMXFP8 Forward Speedup

1.41xTokens/Sec/GPU Gain

Built as a fully deterministic megakernel, MoK supports BF16 and MXFP8 precision modes, scheduling via Blackwell's Cluster Launch Control to prevent inter-rack RDMA serialization. Layer benchmarks on a single NVL72 rack at EP degree 64 demonstrated that MoK achieves up to 2.37x faster performance for MXFP8 forward passes compared to the fastest baseline, while end-to-end token throughput per GPU rose from 760.9 to 1,070.2.

Source: MarkTechPost

pip install xy

(Geospatial Analytics)

pick()

259 MiB Powered under the hood by Rust, the library can be installed via
pip install xy
and requires Python 3.11 or newer to run.

Regarding deployment, XY fits best for startups and mid-size data teams looking for internal analytics, notebooks, and shareable artifacts. Regulated enterprises are advised to run pilot tests rather than placing it on customer-facing critical paths. Its utility shines brightest where row counts act as primary bottlenecks, such as quantitative finance with tick data, genomics and bioinformatics, observability and telemetry, astronomy, and geospatial analytics.

By leveraging Rust under the hood and maintaining canonical
f64
columns in a Python ColumnStore, XY bypasses traditional Python performance constraints. This design exemplifies the modern trend in data science tooling: combining the raw computational speed of lower-level compiled languages with the flexibility of script environments to handle tens of millions of data points without browser unresponsiveness.

Internally, XY keeps exact values in Python and determines a rendered representation per trace. Current default behaviors trigger M4 decimation above 10,000 rows for long ordered lines and automatic scatter density above 200,000 points. Density grids default to 512×384 cells, which official documentation explicitly notes as pre-1.0 policy thresholds rather than permanent API guarantees.

Stock photo for illustration only, not from the actual event

Because exact values remain accessible in Python, hover interactions, selections, and the
pick()
method continue to resolve original rows whenever the active tier maintains an exact mapping. Zooming into a narrow window yields exact visible points from a padded aligned window, and nearby pans render directly from that cached window without triggering additional requests.

34×Speedup at 10M points

177×Speedup at 50M points

258 KiBExported HTML size (1M-100M rows)

Benchmark measurements run through a real browser on a single Apple M5 Pro device show a stated 34× speedup at 10 million points and 177× at 50 million points. Peak Python-side memory usage at 10 million points reaches 0.32 GiB for XY, compared to 0.84 GiB for Matplotlib and 1.86 GiB for Plotly. When density is set to false, XY draws 100 million exact markers in 1.343 seconds using 5.26 GiB of memory. Reflex also highlights the successful rendering of the complete OpenStreetMap dataset comprising 10 billion points.

Export capabilities are equally striking: a 10-million-point interactive scatter plot exports to just 258 KiB of HTML, contrasted with a stated 259 MiB for the equivalent Plotly output. This payload size remains constant around 258 KiB across datasets ranging from 1 million to 100 million rows.

Stock photo for illustration only, not from the actual event

Charts are constructed declaratively using marks, axes, legends, tooltips, and annotations. Fourteen chart families are available out of the box, including scatter, line, area, histogram, box, violin, ECDF, heatmap, hexbin, and contour. Styling integrates cleanly with CSS and Tailwind classes through stable DOM slots. For migration purposes, importing
xy.pyplot as plt
enables running common Matplotlib pyplot syntax, though compatibility notices warn that full coverage is not guaranteed. Additionally, a separate
reflex-xy
adapter transforms any chart into a native Reflex component without requiring JavaScript or iframes.

Source: MarkTechPost

Sheets sidecar

The project's scope was remarkably lean from day one, conceived by a single engineer over a one-week development sprint, utilizing roughly $10,000 worth of tokens for the Alpha phase. Binaries are immediately available for installation on Apple Silicon Macs and Windows x64, while developers can also build from source utilizing Node 20+, npm 10+, and a Rust toolchain dedicated to the Sheets sidecar.

This release maps cleanly to specific initial adopters. Startups and small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) represent the natural first tier due to zero license fees, no watermarks, and full fidelity across .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx formats. Mid-market teams can freely fork the codebase as permitted by the Apache-2.0 license, though the ee/ directory remains reserved for upcoming enterprise modules under a separate GenOffice Enterprise License, and the GenOffice and Genspark names remain Mainfunc, Inc. trademarks that forks are prohibited from reusing. Regulated enterprises, however, are advised to wait, as the current alpha status and cloud-routed AI pathways require formal procurement review and Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) work first.

Stock photo for illustration only, not from the actual event

1 WeekAlpha Development Sprint

$10,000Initial Token Budget

When handling documents, GenOffice archives the original .docx file by hash and completely avoids modifying it directly. The docx-engine parses top-level elements of word/document.xml into a structured block tree, anchoring each block with a docxIndex paired with the original XML slice. Editing is powered by a TipTap streaming editor equipped with dirty tracking. Upon saving, only the modified blocks are converted into OOXML fragments—referencing pre-existing styles—and spliced back into the original document.xml. Untouched blocks preserve their original bytes byte-for-byte, and every other archive entry is copied verbatim.

GenOffice's strategic choice to employ narrow patches over a true source file addresses a notorious pain point in alternative office suites: layout corruption upon round-trip editing with Microsoft Office. Furthermore, adopting an open-source Apache-2.0 model allows external developers to audit code transparency and build custom extensions safely.

The remaining applications follow this exact engineering philosophy. Sheets builds its interface upon the open-source Univer core (Apache-2.0) supplemented by extensive proprietary extensions, handling XLSX imports and exports via a native Rust sidecar utilizing calamine and IronCalc. Charts are rendered in-house using Konva alongside pivot tables, slicers, conditional formatting, and formula tracing. Slides relies on a proprietary pptx parsing, rendering, and editing engine that covers masters, charts, cropping, ink, and text shaping via HarfBuzz metrics. The PDF module utilizes pdf.js and pdf-lib to support annotations, forms, outlines, stamps, signatures, page operations, and printing, while the Shell component acts as the home screen, tabbed host, and auto-updater manager.

Furthermore, the SECURITY.md documentation is remarkably rigorous for an alpha release. Every document window executes with contextIsolation: true, nodeIntegration: false, and sandbox: true enabled. Inter-Process Communication (IPC) payloads undergo strict schema validation within the main process, with Sheets implementing end-to-end Zod validation. External web links are funneled through a single safeExternalUrl gate enforcing an explicit http/https allowlist, rejecting file:, javascript:, and custom schemes. Additionally, two distinct AI threat models are explicitly documented: Slides layout scripts are parsed via Acorn and evaluated inside a constrained AST interpreter—bypassing eval, Function, VM contexts, or workers entirely—while AI-generated HTML in the pptx export pipeline runs inside an isolated, hostile-treated hidden BrowserWindow driven exclusively via executeJavaScript under a watchdog timeout.

Source: MarkTechPost

QM is enterprise organization software rather than a desktop application.

Each user and chat room gets an isolated workspace, memory, and sandbox.

It is harness-agnostic, supporting Pi, OpenCode, Codex, and Claude Code.

The project is available under an MIT license for immediate cloud deployment.

Y Combinator has open-sourced QM, an MIT-licensed multiplayer AI agent harness designed specifically for organizational use. The software is ready for deployment today, functioning as organization software rather than a desktop application. A successful setup requires a cloud account, a Postgres database, and someone comfortable with managing infrastructure. The ideal fit is a startup or mid-sized company with roughly 10 to 500 employees and at least one platform engineer, while larger enterprises can run it after reviewing their security posture.

Deploying QM does not require cloning the entire repository. Instead, an organization-owned deployment repository depends on @yc-software/qm and runs qm init with an organizational slug alongside a Fly.io or AWS target. This initialization process creates a deployment skill that guides the administrator through infrastructure setup, web sign-in, connectors, optional Slack access, and live verification. Sign-in defaults to a built-in broker that emails a one-time link, though an external identity provider can be integrated. Every deployment operates strictly within the operator's own cloud account.

Stock photo for illustration only, not from the actual event

Most conventional AI agents are built as personal assistants, but the YC team notes that scaling a single assistant across an entire enterprise quickly introduces complexity. QM addresses this by assigning each employee an isolated workspace that others cannot interfere with, while allowing seamless collaboration within channels, group messages, and projects. Every individual and room maintains its own scoped memory, files, keychain view, permissions, cron jobs, web applications, and durable sandbox, with identical identity and configuration carrying over between Slack and the web application.

Y Combinator's release of QM highlights a major shift toward collaborative, multi-agent enterprise architectures where AI tools are deeply integrated into team workflows. By remaining harness-agnostic and giving organizations granular control over execution postures and data screening, QM bridges the gap between powerful developer tooling and strict corporate security requirements.

At its core architecture, every turn routes through a central headless core that handles APIs, identity, policies, and scheduling while driving the agent loop. A Postgres layer securely maintains user data, session history, and durable states. The agent relies on a fixed, lightweight tool surface, including an execute tool that runs commands inside the scope's dedicated isolated sandbox. Notably, QM is harness-agnostic, meaning Pi, OpenCode, Codex, and Claude Code can all drive the exact same core without tying a deployment to a single vendor.

QM also incorporates robust security postures that organizations can configure based on their risk tolerance. The Strict posture pauses for human approval on every harness tool call, while the default Auto posture screens external data and tool results using a classifier. The Dangerous posture removes content screening while retaining hard-coded command policies that block destructive actions such as recursive deletes and dangerous SQL queries. Comprehensive security limitations and threat models are documented within the official repository.

Source: MarkTechPost

Agentic AI breaks traditional AppSec assumptions as behavior emerges from models, prompts, context, and tools.

Organizations must hunt for shadow agents, unregistered MCP servers, and embedded AI frameworks.

Runtime protection relies on inbound/outbound guardrails operating in a loop with AI red teaming.

Maturity is measured across four stages aligned with NIST, OWASP, ISO, and EU AI Act standards.

Traditional application security was built on the single assumption that applications do exactly what their source code dictates. Agentic AI shatters this premise entirely. The behavior of an agent emerges dynamically from a foundational model, system prompts, retrieved contexts, user inputs, and external tools it is permitted to call. Consequently, two identical deployments can exhibit entirely different operational behaviors.

The failure modes encountered here are also fundamentally novel. Prompt injections arrive via data streams rather than application code. An over-permissioned agent can execute harmful actions without exploiting any underlying software vulnerability. Deprecated models continue serving predictions long after maintainers stop releasing security patches. Furthermore, a poisoned tool description hosted on an MCP server can stealthily redirect an agent's behavior without touching the host application at all. None of these critical issues show up in a standard CVE feed, meaning the operational mandate must be twofold: shift left and protect right.

Because AI workloads rarely enter organizations through formal procurement channels, security teams must hunt across three primary categories: shadow agents, unregistered MCP servers, and embedded AI frameworks. Every single MCP server requires a designated owner, a strictly defined access scope, and regular reviews.

Stock photo for illustration only, not from the actual event

There are five distinct discovery methods deployment teams should deploy. First, scan code repositories for agentic signatures. Second, monitor network egress traffic for outbound calls directed at model API endpoints. Third, audit all active service accounts and API keys. Fourth, streamline governance by making declaration cheap through lightweight registration tools. Finally, automate these processes continuously, because point-in-time discovery methods become stale rapidly.

Securing production AI requires a shift from static code analysis to behavioral governance. Because models interact dynamically with unstructured data and external tools, traditional vulnerability scanners fall short. Protecting these environments demands comprehensive visibility into data reach, tool permissions, and continuous runtime guardrails to prevent unintended autonomous actions.

Runtime protection strategies involve implementing guardrails, hardening prompts, enforcing strict policies, and maintaining rigorous monitoring. This operates as a continuous feedback loop alongside AI red teaming, where discoveries made by red teams directly improve guardrail rules, while logs generated by guardrails inform subsequent red team exercises.

Guardrails can be deployed in two primary ways: via an in-app Python SDK supporting online or isolated offline modes, or deployed as a standalone API server using Docker that requires zero code modifications or Python dependencies. A minimal viable setup includes inbound guardrails to catch prompt injections, out-of-policy requests, and jailbreaks, alongside outbound guardrails to intercept credentials, PII, proprietary source code, unsafe content, and policy violations.

Source: MarkTechPost

The PerceptionBench configuration utilizes a dictionary of parameters, designated as
CFG
, which establishes settings such as the dataset repository
moonshotai/PerceptionBench
, the
train
split, 12 samples per category, and a maximum scan limit of 1,200 items. These predefined settings ensure consistent and reproducible behavior whether executing workflows within Google Colab or a local machine setup.

In addition to foundational infrastructure setup, the workflow automates the installation of required Python libraries through package management tools. This includes dependencies for dataset handling, numerical analysis, data visualization, HTTP communication, and image processing. Matplotlib settings are also fine-tuned to maintain clean visual outputs and ensure consistent report generation throughout the entire evaluation pipeline.

Stock photo for illustration only, not from the actual event

Evaluating modern multimodal models is inherently complex as systems must simultaneously reason across textual and visual modalities. Utilizing structured configuration frameworks like PerceptionBench allows researchers to maintain strict control over experimental variables. This standardization ensures that comparative benchmarks between different vision architectures remain both reliable and fully reproducible, which is vital for empirical AI research.

The operational framework is structured to offer maximum flexibility, allowing users to adapt according to available computational resources. Operators can run pipelines without requiring an API key or a dedicated GPU by utilizing the blind-prior baseline, or seamlessly switch to cloud-hosted APIs and local vision-language models such as
HuggingFaceTB/SmolVLM2-2.2B-Instruct
depending on backend configurations.

Ultimately, the resulting evaluation reports move far beyond a single overarching accuracy score. They allow engineers and researchers to inspect individual model performance across granular visual capabilities, multi-image queries, varying image resolutions, and specific answer formats, laying a solid foundation for advanced prompt engineering and optimization experiments.

Source: MarkTechPost
