Anshuman Rai has submitted BazaarBrain for Week 2 of the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge, introducing an AI-powered sales and commerce assistant designed to help local shop owners manage their business operations and create marketing content without technical expertise.
Small retailers frequently handle products, inventory, customer details, and orders across notebooks, spreadsheets, and disjointed apps. Drafting product descriptions, promotional text, and maintaining consistent branding consumes valuable time that merchants would rather dedicate to serving their customers.

BazaarBrain consolidates these workflows into a single commerce-focused dashboard tailored for independent retailers, neighborhood shops, and early-stage commerce businesses needing practical digital tools without enterprise-level software complexity.
Bringing artificial intelligence to small-scale retailers often faces hurdles due to budget constraints and technical complexity. Utilizing open-weight models and running local inference on commodity hardware offers a sustainable pathway to democratize smart software without ongoing subscription burdens or vendor lock-in.
Under the hood, the backend is deployed on Render while frontend integration is finalized. The application utilizes a React and TypeScript frontend built with Vite, paired with an Express and TypeScript backend, using PostgreSQL and Prisma for data management.
At the core of the project is Open-Weight AI supporting various content workflows, including product descriptions, SEO metadata, WhatsApp marketing copy, Instagram captions, and FAQs. It handles English, Hindi in Devanagari script, and Hinglish in Roman script, making it practical for local businesses in India.
A pivotal design choice was utilizing local inference via open-weight models instead of proprietary APIs. By leveraging Ollama, a shop owner or supporting developer can run the entire AI Studio on commodity hardware without needing API keys or monthly subscriptions.
