Google is enhancing in-car AI capabilities by introducing Personal Intelligence features to Gemini within vehicles. With this latest update, Gemini on Android Auto and cars equipped with Google built-in can now securely tap into user information across various Google applications, including Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube, and Search.
This integration allows drivers to interact with their AI assistant using natural, context-aware voice commands. According to a report by The Verge, drivers can ask about their flight status while heading to the airport, allowing the assistant to pull flight details directly from a Gmail confirmation message and check real-time updates. Users can also request navigation using natural phrases like "take me to my doctor’s appointment" or ask the system to "find the car wash from the photo I took last week and navigate there" instead of searching manually.

Google initially brought the Gemini assistant to Android Auto last year before expanding the rollout to cars with Google built-in back in April. Several major automakers, including Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Volvo, and Polestar, have already shipped newer vehicle models featuring Google built-in support for native Android applications.
Bringing Personal Intelligence to the automotive sector highlights Google's strategy to deeply integrate its digital ecosystem into everyday driving experiences. By leveraging personal app data, the system reduces manual screen interaction behind the wheel, which helps improve road safety while allowing the AI to understand user intent far better than traditional voice assistants.
To address privacy concerns, Google stated that applications will only be connected to Gemini if the user explicitly enables the Personal Intelligence setting. Furthermore, personalized responses will only be generated when a mobile phone is actively connected to the vehicle.
Google also clarified that standard functions remain unaffected for those who opt out, noting that navigation, music streaming, phone calls, and general queries will continue to work normally without tailored personal data integration.
Personal Intelligence is rolling out to Android Auto starting today, with support for vehicles featuring Google built-in scheduled to arrive over the coming months.
