The iconic red-and-white aluminum traffic barriers commonly found across Dutch streets as construction markers are getting a creative second life. Studio Martins Mezulis, in collaboration with 13_0663_tsx, has reinterpreted these standardized safety structures into an outdoor furniture collection titled 'stop!'
By shifting the purpose of high-visibility infrastructure from restriction to invitation, the project turns restrictive roadside panels into communal seating that encourages pedestrians to pause and gather. This approach recontextualizes familiar utilitarian elements into approachable street furniture.

The collection makes its public debut during Dutch Design Week 2026, featuring installations strategically placed at key public locations in Eindhoven, specifically Strijp-S Ketelhuisplein and Design Perron.
The modular benches and stools are precisely proportioned with a height of 450 millimeters, a length of 1250 millimeters, and a width of 500 millimeters to ensure comfortable public seating functionality outdoors.
Reusing utilitarian civic infrastructure for community furniture highlights a growing trend in contemporary urban design. By transforming everyday objects into interactive art and seating, designers can foster a stronger sense of place while drawing attention to familiar elements of the urban landscape in unexpected ways.
