The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is introducing the "Amazing Mekong by Amazing Thailand" night-time experiences to enhance the 2026 Nakhon Phanom Illuminated Boat Procession. Taking place from October 22-27 along the Mekong riverfront, the activities expand upon local traditions through modern lighting, artistic design, live performances, and interactive participation.
As part of the river activities, a specially designed TAT illuminated boat brings the experience directly onto the Mekong River, fusing modern lighting technology with Nakhon Phanom's cultural heritage. The boat is exhibited from 18:00 to 22:00 on October 22 and 27, sails along the Mekong at 19:00 from October 23 to 25, and joins the grand finale on October 26 with a special river presentation at 22:20.

Between October 24 and 26, a fleet of 800 drones will illuminate the night sky above the Mekong with synchronized formations tied to the festival theme. On October 24 and 25, the drone performance begins at 19:30 at the Si Sattanakharat riverside area right after the illuminated boat showcase. The programme concludes on October 26 at 23:30 with a special 800-drone display accompanied by fireworks.
The riverside activities also celebrate Isan culture through live Molam and traditional music performances. Daily from 16:00 to 18:00, hands-on DIY workshops invite visitors to craft flower-decorated bamboo miniature boats or banana-stem krathongs as meaningful souvenirs inspired by local customs.
Integrating modern innovations like large-scale drone formations and architectural lighting into traditional festivals reflects TAT's strategic push to elevate local cultural celebrations into "Must-Experience in Thailand" status. This approach helps extend visitor stays, encourages localized spending, and supports the broader goal of establishing Thailand as a premier global event hub.
