Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Watcharapol Khawkam traveled to Phuket province to inspect land utilization within the Agricultural Land Reform Office zone at Paradise Beach. He also held discussions with representatives from tourism businesses, accommodations, restaurants, government agencies, and departments under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
The inspection took place on October 23, 2026, with the primary objective of reviewing Sor Por Kor land usage to ensure strict compliance with legal frameworks while maximizing benefits for farmers and the local economy.
During the meeting, a representative from Phuket Sor Por Kor reported that the agency received forest land starting in 1994 following the land reform declaration, totaling over 30,000 rai. To date, 10,571 rai across 10 sub-districts and 3 districts have been allocated to 756 farmers.
However, more than 20,000 rai remains unallocated, partly because the plots were acquired prior to 1994 before the official land code enforcement, requiring careful administration under current legal standards.

The Sor Por Kor land reform initiative was originally established to distribute land to impoverished farmers exclusively for agricultural purposes. In major tourism hubs like Phuket, commercial utilization by private operators often triggers legal and regulatory debates. The Ministry's push to regulate land use while encouraging businesses to financially support local farmers represents a critical effort to balance tourism-driven economic growth with the protection of farmers' rights.
Mr. Watcharapol emphasized during the session that all land utilization must remain transparent, legally compliant, and beneficial to the regional economy alongside agricultural welfare. Furthermore, the Ministry plans to propose legislative amendments allowing the business sector to systematically support local farmers as a priority.
