Chelsea's Mudryk free to play after appeal against doping ban

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is cleared to return to competitive football straight away following the successful resolution of his anti-doping case with the Football Association, ending months of uncertainty regarding his professional career.
The 25-year-old Ukraine international had been sidelined from competitive matches since November 2024 after receiving a provisional suspension for returning an adverse finding for the banned substance meldonium. He was initially handed a four-year ban by the FA before appealing the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

The FA confirmed on Friday that disciplinary proceedings concluded after Mudryk accepted breaching anti-doping rules and agreed to a suspension equal to the time he has already served, allowing him an immediate return to competition.
"As I have always maintained from the outset of this case, I have never knowingly or intentionally taken any banned substance."
According to the FA, the out-of-competition test conducted in October 2024 showed a low concentration of the cardiovascular medication meldonium. The governing body also noted that technical updates have since been made by the World Anti-Doping Agency regarding the substance.
Meldonium is a substance known for potentially increasing stamina and oxygen uptake, making it a frequent point of discussion in sports anti-doping regulations. WADA's subsequent technical updates and the agreement between all parties allowed for a resolution that matched the time already served on the sidelines.
During his 20 months away from official club facilities, Mudryk funded private coaching sessions and used non-league side Uxbridge FC's pitch to maintain his match fitness. Chelsea stated they are pleased with the conclusion and will evaluate the best pathway forward for his reintegration.
