- Emphasizing human rights and livelihoods over pure security in the deep south
On October 24, 2026, Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, party-list MP and leader of the Prachachat Party, alongside former Justice Ministry secretary Gooheng Yaohahasan, security officials, and relevant agencies, visited the residence of MP Kamolsak LeeWaMae in Bacho district, Narathiwat province, to hold a meeting tracking the progress of his shooting case.
This meeting stems from the assassination attempt against MP Kamolsak on March 20. As of today, over 7 months or 218 days have passed, yet the legal process remains ongoing without a final court judgment. This has drawn close attention from local residents regarding the personal safety of political figures and the enforcement standards required to bring perpetrators to justice.
On the same day, Pol. Col. Thawee's delegation continued to the Che Gar restaurant in Mueang Narathiwat district to meet with local figures. Discussions highlighted the policy of prioritizing human rights and local livelihoods to drive security policies and foster sustainable peace in Thailand's southern border provinces.
The prolonged investigation into attacks against political figures in Thailand's southern border provinces highlights ongoing challenges within the justice system and public safety standards. A 218-day delay impacts public trust in law enforcement, while shifting focus toward economic livelihoods and human rights represents a structural approach to mitigating regional conflicts.
