Police Chief Approves Resignation of Lt. Gen. Tavornsin, Effective Aug 1

On July 31, reports emerged from the Royal Thai Police headquarters revealing that National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet signed National Police Office Order No. 341/2569, granting permission for a high-ranking police official to resign from government service. The officer in question is Lt. Gen. Dr. Tavornsin Wechwitharn, serving as the Surgeon General (Level 8).
Regarding the resignation request, Lt. Gen. Dr. Tavornsin stated his intention to leave government service in order to pursue a private career within his medical profession. Exercising authority under Sections 105 and 315 of the National Police Act B.E. 2565, along with the 2026 Police Service Commission regulations concerning police resignations, the Police Chief approved the request, setting the effective date for August 1, 2026, according to the order dated July 27, 2026.

The departure of high-ranking officials within the national police force often draws intense public scrutiny, particularly when governed by statutory frameworks like the National Police Act. These regulations outline strict administrative procedures and designate specific authorities for reviewing and granting resignations under varying professional circumstances.
Prior to the official effective date of the resignation, reports on July 29, 2026, indicated that a factual investigation committee chaired by Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kornchai Kluesklung reached a unanimous resolution. The committee concluded that Lt. Gen. Dr. Tavornsin's case fell under unethical conduct guidelines based on findings by the Medical Council regarding the 14th-floor Police Hospital case, prompting a recommendation for a serious disciplinary inquiry.
Following that resolution, the Police Chief proceeded to sign an order establishing a serious disciplinary investigation committee, appointing Inspector General Pol. Gen. Itthiphol Achariyapradit as committee chairman to oversee the formal review and administrative procedures moving forward.
