  • Mozilla is updating the AI-powered Firefox Smart Window with new form-filling capabilities.
  • The "Fill from sources" feature pulls information from open browser tabs to populate online job applications and forms.
  • The tool requires forms with at least four text fields and is powered by Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite model.
  • Users can type "/watch" in the chat to monitor specific web pages for sales, job listings, and updates.

Mozilla is rolling out an update to Smart Window, the artificial intelligence-powered browsing experience built into Firefox, introducing a new capability designed to help users complete online forms using data gathered directly from their open browser tabs.

As an illustration provided by Mozilla, the Smart Window feature can extract work history details from an online portfolio or a LinkedIn profile and paste that information seamlessly into an online job application, sparing users from manual data entry.

Users can test out this functionality by clicking into any web form containing a minimum of four text fields. Once activated, an option labeled "Fill from sources" appears, displaying a list of all open tabs Firefox intends to pull context from. Users retain full control to select or deselect specific tabs, allowing the browser to generate tailored suggestions based exclusively on the chosen sources.

At present, this capability supports standard text fields found within web forms, though Mozilla confirmed it is actively developing support for dropdown menus and PDF documents. Data harvested from the source pages is processed and shared with Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite AI model, which generates the underlying text suggestions.

Integrating generative artificial intelligence directly into the web browser interface represents a major shift toward reducing repetitive digital tasks. By analyzing the user's active browsing context, AI assistants can eliminate the friction of switching between multiple tabs and copying repetitive personal data manually.

Alongside the form-completion tool, the update introduces a webpage monitoring feature. Users can direct Firefox’s Smart Window to keep an eye on particular web pages for items such as price drops, new job openings, or other specific updates.

To configure a tracking task, users simply type "/watch" into the Smart Window chat interface, describe what information they want to track, and specify the target webpages. Firefox will then perform checks for updates on either a daily or weekly schedule, operating exclusively while the web browser remains open.

When the browser identifies a qualifying change, it triggers a notification via the Tasks button located on the toolbar or directly on the user's desktop if desktop alerts are enabled. If no changes are detected over a 60-day period, Firefox pauses the monitoring task before terminating it completely after 90 days of inactivity.

Both of these new features are currently rolling out to the Smart Window beta on desktop platforms in the United States and Canada, with wider international availability scheduled to launch in the coming months.
