Superhero movie fans have new reason to look forward to the future of the interconnected cinematic landscape, as DC Studios co-head James Gunn has revealed that the search for the DCU's Batman is finally getting underway.
Addressing the highly anticipated role, Gunn noted that the process of finding the right actor to wear the cape and cowl is not far off. Furthermore, he clarified a key creative direction for the character: the chosen actor will be close in age to David Corenswet, who portrays Clark Kent in the newly minted franchise.

Aligning the ages of Batman and Superman marks a significant shift from previous iterations, such as Ben Affleck's veteran Dark Knight mentoring Henry Cavill's Superman in the former DCEU. Choosing actors in a similar age bracket suggests that the new DCU aims to portray heroes who grow, struggle, and establish their dynamic side-by-side from comparable starting points.
With the core cast of the franchise's opening chapter already locked in—including Corenswet's Superman alongside other major supporting characters—securing the right actor for Gotham City's protector remains one of the final major pieces of the puzzle for the studio's upcoming slate.
While Gunn has not yet announced specific audition dates or a shortlist of candidates for the role, his remarks provide reassurance that development on the planned Batman feature, titled The Brave and the Bold, is steadily moving forward.
