Turkish design practice Milimetrik Architects has revitalized the historic Rami Library in Istanbul, Turkey, transforming its courtyards and indoor spaces into a large-scale environment for family recreation and cultural programming. Staged as AileFest 2026, the temporary spatial intervention ran from September 26th to October 6th, 2026, encompassing a 91,000-square-meter site designed to connect open-air areas with interior galleries.
The project utilizes a child-centric spatial layout scaled for various age groups. Rather than installing conventional playground equipment, the studio populated the expansive outdoor courtyards with modular geometric volumes, abstract shelters, and chromatic gathering nodes that encourage open-ended circulation and spontaneous play among visitors of all ages.

Inside the historic library building, the Book Fair breaks away from standard orthogonal booth arrangements. The architects organized the interior using pitched house-shaped pavilions, primary-toned modular display stands, and graphic floor patterns, establishing a continuous and engaging flow throughout the heritage venue.
Deploying temporary timber-and-steel fabrications within a historic heritage site demonstrates how contemporary architecture can activate civic spaces without permanently altering their original structures, bridging historical preservation with modern public engagement.
The installation highlights the potential of modular construction and textile canopies to temporarily redefine historic urban landmarks into vibrant community hubs for shared family experiences and cultural education.
