- VIDRAFT introduces ViKernel, a weight-native OS layer for AI models.
- Embeds ROM, RAM, and xPU circuits directly inside model weight files.
- Features boot integrity checks, audit chains, and a built-in kill switch.
- An interactive public demo is currently live on Hugging Face Spaces.
The artificial intelligence landscape is witnessing a structural shift in model architecture as VIDRAFT introduces ViKernel, a conceptual framework that embeds an operating system layer directly into an AI model's weight files. This approach breaks away from traditional external safety guardrails, such as proxy wrappers and prompt filters, which reside outside the model and can be easily stripped away or bypassed.
ViKernel approaches the model file as a complete machine equipped with built-in firmware and an operating system, drawing an analogy to physical hardware. Four core security features are designed to be weight-resident: boot integrity checking, a policy engine, an immutable audit chain, and a hardware-level kill switch that travels with the model file wherever it is copied.

This architecture addresses the structural weaknesses of external wrappers by integrating a Secure OS on top of an in-weights xPU chip circuit. According to the published details, ViKernel plugs into existing base models additively without altering their core knowledge or baseline capabilities, focusing instead on governing actions and decisions.
Embedding an operating system directly into model weights represents a novel paradigm in AI governance. As open-source models face ongoing challenges regarding safety bypasses and unauthorized weight tampering, binding structural controls directly to the binary file ensures that policy enforcement remains intact regardless of where the model is deployed.
At the time of writing, VIDRAFT has released an interactive public demo titled ViKernel-Desktop v0.1 on Hugging Face Spaces, showcasing live kernel state monitoring, boot integrity, and interactive KILL and RESUME controls. The release serves as an architectural and conceptual preview, with no pip installation packages, GitHub repositories, or external API endpoints announced yet.
