The Spanish football community is mourning the tragic death of Jesus de Miguel, a 30-year-old forward for CD Tenerife, who passed away after suffering severe injuries during a Spanish second-division fixture.
The incident took place seven minutes into stoppage time while Tenerife and FC Andorra were level at 2-2. Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out towards the centre circle to clear a long ball when his knee collided heavily with De Miguel, leaving the striker motionless on the pitch as medical staff rushed to his aid.

De Miguel was quickly transferred by ambulance from Tenerife's Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez to a hospital. According to Spanish media reports including Marca, the player suffered a cardiac arrest inside the ambulance and was resuscitated by paramedics along the way.
"I am sorry with all my soul. Rest in peace, Jesus."

The referee issued a straight red card to Owono before abandoning the match entirely, as players from both sides were visibly distressed. Tributes poured in from across the football world, including statements from Andorra co-owner Gerard Pique, La Liga president Javier Tebas, and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe.
This fatal incident highlights the inherent physical dangers present in professional football, particularly high-speed collisions involving goalkeepers and onrushing attackers. In response to the tragedy, the Spanish football federation took the decisive step of postponing Tuesday's scheduled Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina fixtures to honor the player's memory.
Born in Madrid, De Miguel began his senior career with Leganes in 2015 and represented eight different clubs across Spain, later joining Castellon and eventually moving to Tenerife on a three-year deal in 2025 where he scored 11 goals in 29 appearances. He is survived by his young daughter, Carla de Miguel Fernandez, who was born in 2025.
