Stepping away from traditional award galas, the event at New Delhi’s ITC Maurya is structured around an intimate sit-down dinner focused on direct conversation. Keynote reflections delivered by editors from designboom and ArchDaily set the tone for an open forum where Indian practitioners and international observers exchange critical insights. Alongside these discussions, the inaugural Built99 Coffee Table Book is launched, documenting the research, projects, and built works of all 99 selected studios in a permanent print edition.
The assembly is the result of a rigorous nomination-only selection process that began in early 2026. An international jury panel including Martin Zelger and Iñaki Laguardia of DAAily Platforms, Timo Behrend of designboom, and Susanna Moreira of ArchDaily evaluated candidate practices based on a minimum decade of regional engagement. The studios were assessed across five core criteria: spatial clarity, contextual intelligence, material and construction ethics, civic impact, and long-term relevance.

Beyond the New Delhi gathering, Built99 functions as a year-round editorial initiative across international and regional media outlets. Dedicated digital guides on designboom and ArchDaily support global coverage, complemented by features across prominent Indian publications such as Forbes India, Fortune India, Robb Report, Hello! Magazine, and GoodHomes. As an annual registry, the platform aims to establish a lasting archive that positions contemporary architecture from the Global South within broader international discourse.
The decision by Built99 to replace traditional gala ceremonies with focused conversational forums highlights a growing shift in architectural circles toward critical engagement over conventional recognition. By integrating editors from global media outlets like designboom and ArchDaily directly into the dialogue, the initiative elevates regional Indian design into a wider international conversation, offering a sustainable framework for evaluating architectural thought.
