- Wynn Resorts maintains its September 2027 opening target for the UAE's first casino resort.
- CEO Craig Billings stated a final decision on the opening format will be made in February.
- The U.S.-Iran conflict shifts the initial customer base focus toward regional travelers from Dubai.
Casino resort operator Wynn Resorts is sticking to its scheduled timeline for the UAE's premier integrated gaming destination, Wynn Al Marjan Island, but is reevaluating its launch strategy. Speaking during the company's third-quarter earnings call on Thursday, CEO Craig Billings announced that the firm will finalize the exact format for its grand opening around February.
While the $5.7 billion mega-project remains on track for September 2027, the ongoing U.S.-Iran war has introduced new variables. Billings noted that the ideal mix of international source markets the company desires directly impacts the launch approach, meaning initial visitors might predominantly originate locally from Dubai and surrounding areas rather than long-haul international tourists.

Billings emphasized that Wynn has prepared operational playbooks for every single iteration of the opening scenario. Back in August, leadership maintained that a staggered rollout was off the table, with plans to open all amenities simultaneously just like any other traditional property launch.
Despite previous intentions for a simultaneous full-scale opening, regional security dynamics have forced executive leadership to weigh alternative formats carefully. Ensuring a smooth launch while navigating shifting travel patterns across the Gulf region remains a top priority for the resort operators.
"We will make a decision about the format in which we open. And we'll probably make that decision around February."
Craig Billings, CEO of Wynn Resorts
This strategic review highlights the complex interplay between massive hospitality investments and unpredictable geopolitical shifts in the Middle East. As Ras Al Khaimah prepares to absorb thousands of new hotel rooms alongside the region's first legal gaming venue, balancing international high-roller demand with regional foot traffic will be crucial for long-term viability.
