- Majority remain calm and advise government to wait for clarity
- Severe flooding remains the top domestic concern for citizens
The Nida Poll survey center of the National Institute of Development Administration has released the results of a public opinion poll regarding the stockpiling of food, medicine, and drinking water. The survey was conducted between November 2 and 3, 2026, gathering data from a total of 1,310 sample groups aged 18 and above, covering various regions, educational backgrounds, occupations, and income levels nationwide.
This public survey was initiated amidst reports that governments worldwide have issued warnings advising citizens to stockpile sufficient food, medical supplies, drinking water, and essential daily goods to last between three to seven days in preparation for potential global disruptions.
When asked regarding their awareness of the international alerts, the majority of respondents, accounting for 77.63 percent, stated that they had indeed heard news about various countries advising their populations to build emergency stockpiles, indicating significant reach of the global news within the country.

The fact that the majority of the Thai public remains unalarmed by international stockpiling trends highlights the distinct nature of local risk perceptions. Thailand traditionally faces localized natural disaster challenges rather than geopolitical supply shocks, and the stable domestic food supply chain provides consumers with strong baseline confidence, reducing the impulse to panic-buy seen elsewhere.
Regarding public policy expectations, citizens expressed the view that relevant government agencies should carefully monitor situations and wait for concrete developments before issuing any official announcements, thereby preventing unnecessary panic among the general population.
Furthermore, the poll results clearly demonstrated that the Thai public remains primarily concerned with domestic natural hazards, particularly severe seasonal flooding. This local threat remains their foremost worry, overshadowing international warnings about emergency supply preparations.
