Mohamed Salah's surprising transfer to Turkish club Trabzonspor has captured global attention. Following the expiry of his contract with Liverpool, the 34-year-old forward landed in Istanbul in August wearing Trabzonspor's burgundy and blue home kit, greeted by thousands of enthusiastic supporters.
The kit sold out almost instantly upon his arrival. As Salah headed to the Black Sea port city of Trabzon, club president Ertugrul Dogan advised him to wear the black away kit instead, which also sold out immediately. The city is now completely immersed in the Salah phenomenon, with fishmongers and club shops adorned with his face.

Trabzonspor has already surpassed last year's merchandise revenue within just three months of Salah's arrival. Furthermore, local airports in Trabzon are experiencing a surge in traffic, with new direct flights introduced from Cairo, Dubai, and Riyadh to accommodate fans traveling to watch matches such as their UEFA Conference League fixture against Freiburg.
On the pitch, Salah has delivered strong performances, driving Trabzonspor's challenge for the Turkish Super Lig title with 10 goals and five assists in all competitions. The team sits closely behind league leaders Galatasaray, having won seven of their opening 10 matches.

Salah's move to Trabzonspor highlights the incredible commercial and cultural pull of a modern football icon. Beyond generating record-breaking retail sales and boosting local tourism, his presence has turned the Turkish club into a secondary home team for fans across the Middle East and the wider Muslim world.

Off the pitch, Salah lives in the nearby town of Yomra, where a street has been named after him, and employs a private chef while maintaining his strict fitness routines. His two-year contract runs until 2028, with Middle Eastern sources speculating a potential future move to Saudi Arabia when his deal concludes.
