According to CBS News, the BBC's US partner, the former public health official is on course to narrowly defeat moderate Democratic congresswoman Haley Stevens. Final figures as of late Wednesday morning showed fewer than 15,000 votes separating the two candidates, translating to a margin of just under 1 percentage point out of more than 1.5 million total ballots counted.
