AI Startup "Prentis" Secures Reid Hoffman and Marc Pincus, Preparing for $100 Million Funding Round

The artificial intelligence community is closely watching the moves of Prentis, a newcomer startup that launched last April. According to reports from sources close to the matter, the company is currently in discussions to raise $100 million, which would value the firm at $1 billion. The primary goal of this research lab is to develop computer models that understand how office workers operate, in order to build AI agents capable of controlling computers and handling daily tasks automatically.
Prentis's approach focuses on developing AI agents to meet specific enterprise client needs, such as managing insurance claims and processing customs duty refunds without employees having to waste time handling paperwork themselves. The company strongly believes that automating general office work will become the most important AI use case, surpassing coding in the near future.
However, this market is intensely competitive, with major players like Anthropic, OpenAI, and Mira Murati's Thinking Machines developing similar AI agents. Meanwhile, Anthropic recently acquired computer-use startup Vercept earlier this year to bolster its in-house team.

The competition in the computer-use AI agent market represents a major milestone in transitioning from humans inputting step-by-step commands to having AI operate virtual screens as personal assistants. If Prentis can raise funds according to its $1 billion target, it will provide them with sufficient capital to compete against tech giants and attract top-tier researchers to join the company.
Behind the success of Prentis is 31-year-old CEO Ritankar Das, founder of Titan, a holding company that builds and manages multiple AI companies including Tala Health and Forta Health. He is joined by tech industry heavyweights Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, and Marc Pincus, founder of Zynga. Currently, Prentis has over 25 employees, including former researchers from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Meta, Tencent, and Alibaba.
