Thai actress Mai Davika Hoorne recently opened up about the overwhelming online response to the teaser of her upcoming film, Khun Yay Woranat. Speaking during her appearance at the 2026 WEIBO GALA – Weibo Cultural Communication Night (Thailand) held at Paragon Hall on the 5th floor of Siam Paragon in Bangkok, she expressed her immense gratitude for the positive reception from fans.
Regarding the heavily discussed promotional clip, the actress revealed that the footage was extremely brief. She even mentioned telling director Banjong Pisanthanakun that the preview gave away too little and she wished they had shown a bit more. Addressing the much-talked-about swimming pool scene, she clarified that her character simply wanted to go for a swim out of boredom, noting that the abandoned pool at the house had been left unused for a long time.

The leading lady further emphasized that the film is packed with unprecedented sequences and experiences she has never undertaken in her career before. Responding to online fan theories and analyses regarding the plot, she noted that current audience predictions are about 50 percent wrong and 50 percent right, expressing confidence that nobody will be able to accurately guess the storyline due to the extensive creative changes made, though she remains tight-lipped on specific plot details.
"Wrong, about 50 percent wrong and 50 percent right. I think there is no way anyone can guess it because there are quite a lot of changes."

When asked whether veteran actress Sinjai Plengpanich—who starred in the classic previous adaptation—was shocked upon seeing this new incarnation of Khun Yay Woranat, Mai stated that they did not discuss the production in depth. Whenever they chat, she playfully treats herself like a fan, recalling how she used to watch the older television version alongside her mother during childhood, finding it terrifying yet strangely alluring because the titular character was so elegant. She added that Sinjai likely found the dynamic amusingly surreal, as the veteran star is required to address her as "aunt" throughout the entire film.
Khun Yay Woranat stands as one of Thailand's most legendary horror literary and television classics, having been adapted across various eras. The decision to completely reinterpret the narrative while keeping the promotional teaser exceptionally sparse serves as a masterclass in building cinematic suspense. By confirming that viewer theories remain split and incomplete, the production successfully maximizes audience intrigue, setting a high bar for contemporary Thai horror cinema ahead of its scheduled release.
Wrapping up her interview, Mai extended her heartfelt thanks to everyone who produced reaction videos and supported the project, admitting that she herself can barely contain her excitement. She urged audiences to mark their calendars and experience the terror firsthand when the movie officially opens on November 19.
