Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, has shared additional details regarding a vehicular accident that occurred four weeks ago near downtown Palo Alto. Initially, Shanahan only stated that the accident was his fault.
However, during a recent press conference, he revealed that his Tesla's Autopilot system was engaged when the crash happened. Shanahan made it clear he was not shifting the blame, asserting that the driver is always at fault whether the driver-assistance feature is active or not.
“I’ve had Autopilot for nine years, so I’m pretty comfortable with it and, you know, who knows what happened when I turned around? Whether it malfunctioned or whether I knocked it off? That’s something I don’t know yet. But regardless, that’s… it is always your fault, whether you’re on Autopilot or not. You can’t take your eyes off the road. It’s a partnership driving, you don’t just turn it over to a computer.”
