On August 9, Lalida Periwatwattana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced a rigorous government crackdown on illicit business networks and alien nominee operations. Pholphoom Suvarnachatri, Deputy Minister of Interior, led the Department of Provincial Administration's special task force alongside relevant agencies to inspect hotels and entertainment venues in the Huai Khwang district of Bangkok following public complaints and tips. He ordered thorough investigations into shareholder structures, financial flows, land ownership, and allegations of state officials demanding bribes.
Initial inspections conducted jointly with the Immigration Bureau, Department of Business Development, Department of Employment, and the Department of Special Investigation revealed that several establishments operated without licenses. Inspectors also uncovered building construction and modification issues violating safety laws, alongside suspicious practices where Thai nationals acted as nominees holding shares for foreign investors. Officials are currently gathering evidence to prosecute those involved.

This targeted operation in Huai Khwang marks a significant effort to tackle gray capital in high-density commercial zones in Bangkok. By focusing on nominee structures and digital financial trails such as questionable QR code payments, authorities demonstrate an adaptation to modern, sophisticated economic crimes rather than relying solely on surface-level permit checks.
Furthermore, safety inspections flagged serious concerns regarding fire escapes, emergency exits, and fire suppression systems. Labor checks also identified foreign workers engaged in illegal employment and reserved occupations. Lalida added that during the raid, some operators attempted to offer bribes to officials in exchange for immunity, dropping names of local agencies. Deputy Minister Pholphoom subsequently instructed the Department of Provincial Administration to coordinate with the named agencies to verify facts, warning that any state official found involved in bribery or abetting illegal businesses will face severe disciplinary and criminal action.
Regarding assets and finance, authorities have coordinated with the Department of Land to investigate real estate holdings that may violate regulations. Financial trails are also under scrutiny following observations regarding QR codes potentially linked to online gambling platforms and payments bypassing domestic Thai banks. The Ministry of Interior plans to expand this sweeping crackdown nationwide through three main channels: public tips, online platform monitoring, and financial tracking to identify the ultimate beneficiaries.
