On August 10, 2026, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin chaired the first meeting of 2026 for the committee on flood and drought prevention and resolution in the eastern region. The meeting took place at the Chonburi meeting room on the 3rd floor of the Chonburi Provincial Hall, alongside an online conference format to establish long-term water resource strategies.
The gathering brought together high-ranking ministry executives, provincial governors, deputy governors, and related agencies to accelerate preparedness for upcoming flood and drought conditions across eight eastern provinces: Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, Sa Kaeo, and Nakhon Nayok. The initiative follows government policies under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul emphasizing systematic, swift, and unified disaster management.

Regarding flood mitigation, Minister Suchart instructed local administrative bodies and the private sector to jointly plan public services and operations to minimize redundancy. Key proactive measures include setting up water pumps, clearing waterways of obstructions, and aligning drainage management with actual field conditions. Furthermore, ministry-affiliated agencies have been told to ready personnel, equipment, resources, and temporary shelters in coordination with local entrepreneurs and hotel operators.
On the public health front, relevant authorities were directed to prepare medical personnel, transport vehicles, medical supplies, and emergency response systems around the clock, prioritizing vulnerable groups to safeguard lives and property within key economic zones.
Water management in the eastern region is vital for the national economy, as it hosts the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) featuring numerous industrial estates and tourism hubs. Proactive flood and drought mitigation frameworks help safeguard supply chains and long-term investments from climate-related disruptions.
"Public hardship is a major issue that cannot wait. The government must prepare before disasters strike, optimize water resource management, and integrate all sectors to work as a unified team."

The meeting also mandated the formation of three sub-committees to oversee the eight provinces. Each group will track situations, evaluate hurdles on the ground, and report back to the main committee. Operations will be integrated through the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command to ensure swift allocation of budgets and relief efforts.
