The Thai Cabinet has officially approved the designation of 2026 as "Thailand Volunteer Year," opening up avenues for government agencies, organizations, and citizens to actively participate in social development. This national initiative mirrors the United Nations' proclamation declaring 2026 as the "International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development 2026" (IVY 2026), reinforcing Thailand's long-standing collaboration with the international community in volunteerism.
At the heart of Thailand Volunteer Year is the expansion of opportunities for citizens to engage in community and national development through organized volunteer activities, participation in National and International Volunteer Day events, and localized projects matching individual skills. To facilitate this, the government is committed to upgrading its "volunteer support system" with enhanced efficiency across three major areas:
- Policy and Legal Enhancement: Supporting volunteer operations, ensuring welfare protection, and fostering international cooperation.
- Management System Development: Establishing clear mechanisms, including a volunteer training institute, provincial and local coordination centers, and a centralized database.
- Knowledge and Morale Building: Promoting public awareness of volunteers' roles, organizing key events, and granting recognition and honors to active volunteers.
