On August 11, 2026, at Thailand Government House, Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong revealed after a cabinet meeting that the Ministry of Education submitted a new set of school safety protocols to the cabinet. The ministry urged all government sectors overseeing educational institutions to urgently adopt the Ministry of Education's announcement on school safety issued on August 10.
This swift action comes in the wake of a violent incident at Debsirin Nonthaburi School on August 7. The Ministry of Education has closely collaborated with relevant agencies to establish seven key safety measures to prevent further tragedies:
- Establishing a Protection of Rights, Freedom, and Safety Center in every educational institution
- Accelerating major legislation through drafting a bill on safety and electronic device usage in schools, open for public hearing until September 9
- Strictly screening and searching for illegal items, weapons, and dangerous objects before entering school premises
- Providing mental health counseling for students, teachers, and school personnel
- Preparing for school reopening on August 17, 2026, in coordination with Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Psychology, the Department of Mental Health's MCATT team, and area psychologists
- Continuous mental health recovery and evaluation at 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month intervals

Elevating school safety to a national agenda highlights the Thai government's strategy to bridge educational administration with internal security forces like the Ministry of Interior and the Royal Thai Police. This multi-agency approach aims to tackle school violence through a combination of legal frameworks, physical security screening, and psychological interventions to restore parental confidence.
"The Ministry of Education expresses our deepest concern and condolences regarding the incident, as well as to the families of the deceased and injured. We assure all parents and citizens that the safety of students and educational personnel remains our highest priority."
Prasert Jantararuangtong, Minister of Education
Meanwhile, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul stated that the Education Minister had briefed the cabinet on the measures to establish them as a national agenda item and prevent future school violence. The Prime Minister added that he also provided additional operational input regarding the Ministry of Interior and the Royal Thai Police, both of which fall under his direct supervision.
