  • Temp Project designed the Rikky Hype flagship store on Khreshchatyk street in Kyiv
  • The 160-square-meter space sits opposite the historic Bessarabian Market
  • Features iridescent metal with a gasoline-like finish that shifts color with viewing angles
  • Incorporates rough plaster, warm cork finishes, and distorting mirrors throughout

Designed by Temp Project, led by Anastasiia Tempynska, the flagship store for Rikky Hype occupies 160 square meters within a postwar building on Khreshchatyk, the main street of Kyiv. Located directly opposite the historic Bessarabian Market, the showroom responds to its urban surroundings through an interior layout organized around material contrasts, reflective surfaces, and a sequenced retail journey.

Large storefront windows connect the interior directly with the surrounding city, framing views toward one of Kyiv's active public zones filled with creative communities, office workers, and market vendors. Rather than serving as a neutral backdrop for the fashion collections, the architectural design translates the visual identity of the Ukrainian brand into a spatial language centered on tactility, distortion, and shifting surfaces.

The existing interior layout was completely reorganized to accommodate men's and women's clothing lines alongside sportswear, lingerie, swimwear, and accessories. Several planning configurations were developed to establish an intuitive circulation path while balancing the distinct retail programs. The spatial sequence begins at the entrance area—grouping reception, checkout, and accessory displays together—before leading visitors into a central lounge and designated retail zones, culminating in private fitting rooms situated at the rear.

Materiality forms the core design language of the showroom crafted by designer Anastasiia Tempynska. Rough plaster introduces textured surfaces that stand in contrast to warm cork finishes and sculptural furniture defined by soft, flowing forms. Integrated steel structures and mesh screens introduce an industrial touch to the interior, while mirrors function as architectural elements rather than simple utilitarian fixtures.

The integration of reflective materials and tactile rough surfaces within contemporary retail design highlights a growing industry shift toward experiential spaces. By moving beyond traditional product displays, brands create physical environments that actively engage shoppers. The use of color-shifting iridescent metals turns architectural elements into dynamic installations that respond to natural lighting changes and visitor movement.

Mirrors distort, fragment, and multiply reflections, turning changing perceptions of the space into an integral part of the retail experience. A cracked mirror embedded directly inside the textured plaster wall introduces another layer of material treatment, combining an irregular reflective plane with the raw roughness of the surrounding wall.

A critical material element is the extensive application of iridescent metal featuring a gasoline-like finish. Its development required a specialised surface treatment capable of shifting colors depending on lighting conditions and the viewer's specific perspective. The resulting visual shifts introduce dynamic movement into an otherwise static interior while reinforcing the project's core focus on perception and material behavior.

Despite the wide array of textures and finishes, the interior maintains a restrained spatial composition. Several custom elements serve as natural focal points, including a rotating mirror positioned at the checkout counter, a curved sculptural sofa, and the cracked mirror integrated seamlessly into the plaster wall.
