Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul chaired the opening ceremony of the first regional security policy implementation workshop at the Challenger Building, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, at 09:00 AM on August 13, 2026. The event was attended by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Interior, provincial governors, district chiefs, and Provincial Police Region 1, 2, and 7 commanders.
This meeting follows two months of collaborative workshops held between provincial governors and provincial police commanders across the country. The Prime Minister outlined nine key areas requiring urgent cross-agency cooperation:

- Cybercrime
- Nominee structures
- Money laundering
- Local influential figures and thugs
- Informal debt resolution
- Tourist safety
- Database integration management
- Drug prevention and suppression

The Prime Minister noted that modern security challenges have evolved and can no longer be addressed by isolated departments. Security threats span across family, community, and national levels, requiring seamless coordination between governors and police commanders, district chiefs and police superintendents, down to local deputies. Operating under a 90-day framework, both agencies must combine manpower and tools while utilizing a shared database known as One Data.
Addressing the critical issue of firearms, the Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the estimated 10 million guns circulating in Thailand, translating to one firearm for every 6 to 7 citizens, akin to a cowboy territory. Excluding children and the elderly, the ratio drops to one gun for every 3 to 4 individuals. The Department of Provincial Administration has already halted the issuance of Por 3 licenses for general civilian firearm acquisition, while Por 12 carrying permits have been suspended for the past three years.
"I ask all of you to apply the principle I previously assigned: maximum independence in performing your duties, following the policy of ignoring names and focusing on behavior. Pay no attention to incoming phone calls. Unless the National Police Chief or your direct superior is calling, you do not need to comply, as it is not a lawful order. I would never make such a call."

The emphasis on database integration and targeted firearm checkpoints highlights the government's push toward structural crime prevention. Utilizing One Data addresses historical information silos between the Ministry of Interior and the Royal Thai Police. In public administration, centralizing intelligence is vital for predictive policing. Furthermore, the ongoing drafting of a new firearms act by the Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs marks a crucial step toward long-term weapons control in the country.
For field operations, the Prime Minister instructed administrative and police forces to jointly establish rigorous checkpoints targeting illegal weapons and drugs. Officers were encouraged to take resolute action against offenders without fear of interference from influential figures. He assured officials that any phone calls claiming to represent him or cabinet members are fraudulent, urging personnel to record and report any attempted political intervention immediately.
