The Ministry of Education in Thailand has responded to public backlash following a major administrative reshuffle involving educational personnel. Education Minister Prasert Chantararuangthong addressed the situation after the Teachers and Educational Personnel Civil Service Commission approved the Office of the Basic Education Commission's proposal to transfer 40 educational area directors. The formal transfer order, numbered 2152/2569, was officially signed by OBEC Secretary-General Phichet Photphakdi on July 27, 2026.
The relocation orders took effect immediately on July 27, 2026, triggering widespread criticism due to the limited pool of only three candidates awaiting placement and the timing of the reshuffle just ahead of the annual retirement season on September 30. In response, ministry officials stated that directors unable to relocate immediately could submit specific justifications, such as academic rank progression or family care responsibilities, to the OBEC for individual review.

Minister Prasert emphasized that any director who feels aggrieved by the transfer order is legally entitled to submit an appeal detailing their specific hardships for case-by-case assistance. He reassured personnel that additional administrative adjustments remain possible during the upcoming September transfer cycle, urging staff members not to panic over the sudden transition.
Addressing the specific case of Wicharn Kespetchar, Director of Udon Thani Primary Educational Service Area Office 3, who submitted his resignation on August 11 following a reassignment to Phetchabun Secondary Educational Service Area Office, Minister Prasert confirmed he is aware of the situation. Director Wicharn cited health concerns and the need to care for his 93-year-old mother. Consequently, ministry leadership has instructed authorities to temporarily freeze the resignation while arranging discussions to seek a viable solution.
The issuance of this order felt heartless and unfair, but I will not sue in court because I do not have the time to travel, and litigation involves financial costs.
