The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has officially welcomed global travellers and local residents to witness the magnificent Royal Barge Procession and its preparatory rehearsals along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. Spanning from the initial river trial on 17 August to the official Royal Kathin Ceremony on 6 November 2026, these dates offer a rare public viewing of one of Thailand's most revered living royal traditions.
Scheduled for 6 November 2026, the primary procession marks the Royal Kathin Ceremony at Wat Arun Ratchawararam. The grand event is held to celebrate the auspicious fourth-cycle, or 48th, birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana on 3 June 2026. During the sacred ceremony, His Majesty the King will present Kathin robes to Buddhist monks in honour of Her Majesty, uniting the Kingdom's royal heritage and Buddhist practices.

The royal fleet will set sail from Wasukri Pier, navigating a historic route established during the reign of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. The vessels will pass iconic Bangkok landmarks including Phra Sumen Fort, Phra Pinklao Bridge, Siriraj Hospital, the Grand Palace, and the Royal Thai Navy Auditorium, before finally docking at Wat Arun Ratchawararam.
To ensure flawless execution for the November ceremony, the Royal Thai Navy has organized 12 comprehensive rehearsals from August through October. This schedule includes 10 minor rehearsal sessions and 2 full-dress rehearsals, with each session commencing at approximately 14:30 local time along the waterfront.
The Royal Barge Procession represents an extraordinary convergence of naval discipline, royal protocol, and intricate Thai craftsmanship preserved across generations. Observing the preparations provides a deeper appreciation of Thailand's intangible cultural heritage, showcasing the meticulous coordination required by hundreds of royal oarsmen navigating Bangkok's principal waterway.
Interested spectators can secure viewing spots along both banks of the Chao Phraya River between Krung Thon Bridge and Wat Arun Ratchawararam during any of the scheduled rehearsal dates or on the final procession day.
