The name Sayan Nirandon, whose birth name is Noi Sompong Phummak, has once again caught the attention of music fans. He rose to fame as a beloved country singer who possessed a vocal style reminiscent of his late senior artist, Sayan Sanya. He is originally a native of Chatturat district in Chaiyaphum province.
However, his career trajectory hit a roadblock when he suffered from multiple health problems, preventing him from accepting singing gigs and causing him to fade from the music scene. In 2016, rumors circulated that the once-famous singer had fallen on hard times, working as a motorcycle taxi driver and running a small noodle stall with his family in Bangkok.

The financial and physical struggles faced by veteran artists often highlight the vulnerable nature of the entertainment industry. When fame fades and health issues strike simultaneously, performers often lose their primary source of livelihood. According to reports, Sayan shared that after his singing engagements declined, life became quite difficult, but he refused to surrender to fate. He spent a period working as a motorcycle taxi rider before trying to open a small noodle stall in Bangkok. When that venture failed to succeed, he decided to return to his hometown to regroup.
Upon returning home, Sayan was ordained as a monk at a temple in Chatturat district, Chaiyaphum. Once his health improved and he felt strong again, he left the monkhood to support his family, working in cassava fields and rice paddies just like ordinary villagers, despite his appearance having changed significantly from his days as a public idol.
A major turning point occurred when he crossed paths with a generous benefactor who kindly granted him land to build a papaya salad shop. What started as a small makeshift shelter was later upgraded when the benefactor funded a larger restaurant construction costing hundreds of thousands of baht, requiring no financial return and charging zero land rent. Today, the restaurant operates under the name Krua Isan, welcoming a steady stream of regular customers and travelers.
Sayan added that whenever he is free from singing engagements or other errands, he personally prepares papaya salad for his customers. Occasionally, patrons who recognize him will ask him to sing a song for them.
