Rooted in southern France, Maison Cédrat draws inspiration from Mediterranean landscapes and architecture for Aura, a newly released lighting collection designed by Pierre Samouilla and Alix Lalucaa, both raised in Occitanie.
Rather than treating illumination as a mere afterthought, the designers approach light as a tangible material capable of altering texture, volume, and atmosphere as daylight shifts throughout the environment.
The pairing of tactile terracotta and translucent washi paper highlights a growing emphasis on raw, earthy elements in contemporary European design. By preserving the natural imperfections and textures of these materials, the pieces create a grounding sensory experience within modern living spaces.
Every piece is crafted in France using traditional techniques. The clay elements are shaped and finished entirely by hand, available in raw clay, terracotta, and black-painted versions, deliberately retaining their raw material presence without over-polishing.

Contrasting this density, the handcrafted washi paper shades introduce softness and translucency. Their irregular natural fiber surfaces remain visible when illuminated, while adjustable paper elements allow users to redirect light and alter the room's mood.
The collection includes Lumia, a large table lamp; Écla, a scaled-down companion; and Nova, a pendant light suspending a cloud-like paper shade around a terracotta core. Despite differing formats, all items share balanced proportions and subtle material contrasts.

Ultimately, the Aura collection by studio Maison Cédrat acts as more than functional lighting, inviting a slower, more contemplative reading of both the objects and the spaces they inhabit from day to night.
