Rutthapol: Chonnapat Can Seek Justice at OAG

On August 25, 2026, at Government House, Justice Minister Pol. Lt. Gen. Rutthapol Naowarat addressed the media regarding recent developments involving Mr. Chonnapat Naksaw, a Member of Parliament for Songkhla province representing the Kla Tham Party.
The MP had previously submitted a petition seeking justice after Department of Special Investigation (DSI) officers forwarded his case file to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in connection with online gambling and transnational crime charges.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Rutthapol noted that individuals have the right to request fairness, pointing out that since Mr. Chonnapat's case has recently reached the prosecutors, formal written requests detailing specific issues must be submitted accordingly. He expressed confidence that the MP would receive a fair process.
The process of petitioning for justice before prosecutors is a legal recourse in Thailand allowing defendants to present additional evidence or contest charges if they believe the preliminary investigation was incomplete. Prosecutors retain the authority to order supplementary investigations before making a final prosecution decision.
Regarding reports that Mr. Chonnapat had previously petitioned the DSI during the initial investigation stage without receiving clarity, the Justice Minister admitted he was unaware of the specific details regarding whether such a submission took place.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Rutthapol added that he would need to investigate the matter within the DSI, noting that if a petition was indeed filed, the agency was obligated to process it. He reiterated that filing a petition with the prosecutors remains a viable path.
