Garmin has officially revealed its latest premium adventure smartwatches, introducing the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro series. The product announcement was broadcast during a YouTube live event titled "Play Harder," adopting a strategy reminiscent of major tech giants.
The base Fenix 9 starts at $999.99 and goes up to $1,149.99 depending on size and color choices. Meanwhile, the Fenix 9 Pro and Pro Solar begin at $1,099.99, scaling up to $1,249.99. Both watches are already listed on Garmin's official website, with orders officially opening on August 28.
Marketed as the company's most advanced training and mapping ecosystem yet, the new lineup brings several notable design updates:
- A brighter AMOLED display reaching up to 3,000 nits, compared to the 1,000-nit screen on the Fenix 8 AMOLED.
- A new 1.5-inch display option on the 51 mm Pro model, expanding on the 1.4-inch size of the previous generation.
- The Fenix 9 Pro marks the first time a Fenix smartwatch features a titanium watch case.
- New ComfortFit accessory bands built with a stretchy fabric construction.

On the software side, the update introduces Garmin Epic on Garmin Connect, allowing users to group multiple training blocks into a single shareable story. New stamina tracking features, including dedicated stamina zones and curves, show endurance changes over time. Additional upgrades include indoor rowing insights, expanded rucking capabilities, and 64 GB of memory for double the map storage and up to 7,000 songs.
Built-in routable maps are now smoother and more intuitive. Armed with 50% more RAM than the Fenix 8, map panning is up to 30% faster. Furthermore, inReach satellite communicator connectivity is available across all Fenix 9 Pro size options for the first time, alongside optional solar-charging displays.
With pricing comfortably starting around the thousand-dollar mark, Garmin is clearly positioning this release as an evolutionary step for dedicated power users rather than a mandatory upgrade for casual Fenix 8 owners. Since the optical heart rate sensor remains the same Elevate Gen 5 component from the previous generation, the core value proposition of this launch relies heavily on the lighter titanium chassis, enhanced brightness, and improved mapping performance.
However, the silver lining for budget-conscious buyers is that the arrival of the Fenix 9 has driven the price of the Fenix 8 down from $1,099.99 to $849.99, turning last year's model into an attractive value purchase for those who can skip titanium and the newest mapping engine.
