Bayern Munich kick off their latest Bundesliga title defence as clear frontrunners after securing 13 of the past 14 league titles, aiming to seal a hat-trick of consecutive successes. The German powerhouse are set to host Stuttgart on Friday evening at 19:30 BST in a fixture broadcast live across BBC platforms.
Vincent Kompany's squad already secured early silverware last weekend by defeating domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to claim the German Super Cup. Meanwhile, England captain Harry Kane aims to capture his fourth consecutive Bundesliga Golden Boot while pursuing even greater milestones with the club.
"The targets at Bayern are always set as high as possible, which means winning the Bundesliga, winning the cup, winning the Champions League and perhaps even winning every single match," Kompany stated regarding the team's ambitions.
During Kompany's tenure, the Bavarian side established themselves as one of Europe's most prolific attacks by netting 184 goals across all competitions last term, including a record 122 in the Bundesliga and 43 in the Champions League before exiting in the semi-finals to Paris St-Germain 6-5 on aggregate. German football journalist Constantin Eckner notes that Kompany is not necessarily required to win the Champions League immediately this season as long as the club remains competitive among Europe's elite top four, bringing much-needed managerial stability after a volatile period.

Kane, who transferred to Bayern from Tottenham on a four-year contract in 2022, enjoyed a stellar campaign by scoring 61 goals in 51 club appearances, setting a new single-season record for the club. This milestone brought his overall tally to 146 goals and 33 assists in 147 games for Bayern, capped off by a hat-trick in the German Cup final victory over Stuttgart.
"Kane has impressed with his very consistent and relentless goalscoring in the Bundesliga. He has essentially filled the shoes of Robert Lewandowksi, who put up similar numbers."

Beyond domestic dominance, Kane is considered a contender for the Ballon d'Or, which would make him only the second Englishman to win the accolade since the 1970s and the first since Michael Owen in 2001. To bolster the squad for another demanding campaign, Bayern also added 23-year-old Germany left-back Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt for an estimated £47 million transfer fee.
