Sonos revealed a fresh lineup of hardware during its open house event today, highlighted by the introduction of the Sonos Beam Ultra soundbar priced at $699 and the Ace Ultra headphones priced at $449, alongside several backend application updates designed to improve overall performance.
While the main show floor provided a challenging environment for audio evaluation, a private demo hosted in a more compact room offered a clearer look at what the Beam Ultra soundbar can actually deliver. Positioned about six feet away from the press, the 7.1.2 channel soundbar was put through its paces with Dolby Atmos content, notably during the opening minutes of Widow’s Bay.

The demonstration showcased the soundbar's enhanced bass, improved vocal clarity, and crisp spatial audio handling. Subtle background elements such as walkie-talkie chatter, atmospheric effects, and suspenseful musical scores remained distinct and clear despite the relatively compact physical footprint of the unit itself.
Equipping the Beam Ultra with physical side- and upward-firing drivers represents a major hardware upgrade over its predecessor, the Beam Gen 2, which relied entirely on software-based spatial audio virtualization. This physical architecture allows users in smaller living spaces to experience true overhead and directional sound effects without needing a complex multi-speaker setup.
Furthermore, the team wirelessly paired two Play portable speakers to act as rear channels during a clip from Sinners, producing a robust and well-balanced soundstage. Bridging the gap in Sonos' lineup, the Beam Ultra sits right between the $499 Sonos Beam Gen 2 and the $1,099 Sonos Arc Ultra.
The Sonos Beam Ultra is scheduled to hit shelves on September 29th, with preorders currently live across major retailers including Best Buy, B&H Photo, Sonos, and Amazon.
