Serving as the Deputy Minister of Interior overseeing the Department of Local Administration, Mr. Warasit highlighted three main agendas. The first addresses expanded duties without matching budget increases. To solve this, the ministry is drafting the Hometown Tax Bill, allowing individual taxpayers to designate their tax allocations to local administrative organizations of their choice, enhancing local financial capabilities and civic engagement.
The proposed Hometown Tax Bill introduces a novel financial mechanism that empowers taxpayers to directly support localities they care about. This approach aims to bridge fiscal disparities from central allocations while encouraging local administrative organizations to actively develop their regions to attract financial backing from taxpayers.
The second agenda focuses on developing an AI-powered legal advisory system. Because local officials often interpret regulations differently, this technology will consolidate essential legal databases and analyze operational guidelines to ensure compliance with relevant laws and administrative rules.
The third agenda stems from the mobile Cabinet meeting in Songkhla province, which approved in principle a national disaster insurance scheme. The government will purchase insurance coverage for every household nationwide, eliminating bureaucratic delays and paperwork burdens so citizens receive prompt, systematic compensation without traveling to submit documents.
This national disaster insurance project is projected to launch by October 2026 to swiftly handle upcoming disaster responses.
