At 10:10 AM on September 4, 2026, at Government House, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed reporters regarding new regulatory frameworks for data center operations to close existing legal loopholes. The government has successfully established a dedicated data center policy board and held its inaugural policy meeting this morning.
The Prime Minister stated that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, serving as board chairman, will compile the directives into official regulations and rules. This aims to ensure public concerns are thoroughly addressed and fairness is maintained across all aspects.
The stricter regulation of data centers and crypto mining in Thailand highlights government efforts to balance global tech infrastructure investments with sustainable domestic resource management, particularly preventing massive power and water consumption from impacting local communities.

Regarding new ventures, the Prime Minister clarified that no new projects are currently being approved. Meanwhile, previously approved projects are permitted to continue as they already secured necessary energy sources, water supplies, and natural resources.
Nevertheless, the primary issue currently being tackled involves entities acquiring advance permits for electricity, water, and business operations strictly for commercial trading or speculation without genuine operational readiness. The government emphasized that such practices will no longer be tolerated.
"We certainly will not allow that, granting permits only to those who are truly ready and willing to comply with the newly established rules. There is nothing to worry about; Thailand must provide support and clear policies."

Finally, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that these stringent oversight measures will not undermine investor confidence, as the government maintains clear supporting policies to position Thailand as a technologically advanced and transparent hub.
