Diamond League Final 2026: Amy Hunt takes third in 200m

British sprinter Amy Hunt continued her strong late-season form by clocking a season's best 22.16 seconds, finishing just eight hundredths of a second off her lifetime best to claim third place in the 200m at the Diamond League final in Brussels, Belgium.

The Briton, who secured four gold medals at the European Championships in Birmingham last month, was outpaced by St Lucia's Julien Alfred—the fastest woman over the distance this year—who secured victory in 21.79 seconds, alongside American Kayla White who clocked 22.00 seconds.

This third-place finish highlights Hunt's upward trajectory during the finale of the 15-stop elite circuit. She previously finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 2005 and 2024 Diamond League finals over the 200-metre distance.

Looking ahead, Hunt is scheduled to run in the 100m event on Saturday night, where she will line up alongside American Olympic silver medallist Sha'Carri Richardson. She also intends to double up events at the inaugural Ultimate Championships in Budapest, starting on September 11.

Among the British contingent in action in Brussels, Hunt recorded the highest finish on the results list. Matt Hudson-Smith placed fifth in the 400m, trailing behind Botswana's world champion Collen Kebinatshipi, while Jake Hayward, competing in his Wales vest, finished eighth in a captivating 1500m race.
