YXSTABY 2026: IKEA turns Xbox controllers into furniture

IKEA and Xbox have teamed up for the YXSTABY collection, transforming iconic controller shapes into functional home furnishings. Among the standout pieces is a stool featuring a seat modeled directly after an Xbox thumbstick, developed from original 3D files and scaled up to support a seated adult.
Wahl, a lifelong gamer who queued overnight for the first Xbox console 25 years ago, helped bring familiar controller geometries into different household scales. The D-pad appears as a soft cushion and as a reflective stainless steel platter, while a mirrored display box offers a dedicated space for controllers and collectibles.
The collaboration stems from a shared observation on modern home gaming habits, where gameplay takes place wherever a screen and seating are available, moving freely between sofas and dining tables. Designers from both companies visited real homes to study the small friction points of transporting gaming gear across rooms.

One direct solution is IKEA’s first rolling TV stand, equipped with built-in gear storage at the back so a screen can follow players around the house. A portable toolbox also keeps controllers and cables organized, with a lid that doubles as a laptop stand when closed.
The collection extends to everyday furniture, including a rolling side table with sliding doors hiding charging spaces, and a monitor stand that elevates screens while leaving clearance underneath for equipment. YXSTABY deliberately bypasses the aggressive visual language typical of gaming gear, relying on white, black, and beige with green accents inside equipment pockets.
This collaboration highlights a major shift in interior design, acknowledging that gaming is now integrated into shared living spaces rather than isolated entertainment rooms. By utilizing subdued color palettes and clever multi-functional concealment, IKEA and Xbox bridge the gap between gaming culture and mainstream home decor.
The YXSTABY collection was recently unveiled at Gamescom and will hit IKEA stores and online platforms on October 1, 2026.
