Global beverage giant Coca-Cola is utilizing artificial intelligence to assist retailers in Malaysia with product ordering decisions through its digital platform known as Coke Buddy. The platform currently supports approximately 39,000 retail outlets across the country, allowing business owners to purchase inventory via mobile application, website, or WhatsApp.
The newly integrated Perfect Basket feature leverages Coca-Cola's Central Recommendation Engine to process various data signals. These include previous purchase history, order frequency, seasonal shifts, weather conditions, and purchasing trends among comparable businesses, enabling the system to suggest both specific items and exact quantities before a purchase is finalized.

The company recently shared usage metrics following the conclusion of its Perfect Basket, Perfect Ride campaign, which ran from January through April 2026. The initiative was designed to encourage retailers to utilize the recommendation tool when submitting orders, drawing more than 4,500 entries from over 4,000 participating retailers across Malaysia.
According to Coca-Cola, 83% of the outlets participating in the campaign chose to adopt the recommendations provided by the Perfect Basket feature. However, the company noted that this figure applies exclusively to the retailers involved in the campaign rather than the entire network of 39,000 outlets supported by the Coke Buddy platform.
Integrating AI into retail ordering systems represents a major shift in supply chain management, helping brands bridge the gap between predictive analytics and frontline execution. By factoring in external variables like weather and seasonality alongside historical transactions, companies can optimize inventory flow and reduce friction for independent merchants. While specific stock level metrics were not disclosed, this data-driven approach highlights a broader industry trend toward automated B2B commerce.
Despite the automated suggestions, Coca-Cola emphasized that human sales teams continue to work alongside the digital platform to support retailers. Business owners retain full control over their final purchasing decisions, with fulfillment managed separately by Coca-Cola Refreshments Malaysia and its authorized distribution partners.
