Microsoft brings back classic Xbox startup animations
Microsoft is testing new Xbox features for Insiders, letting users pick classic console boot animations, search locally, and enjoy better Remote Play quality.

Microsoft has begun testing a fresh batch of console features with Xbox Insiders, introducing nostalgic personalization options alongside practical system improvements. The update allows testers to select custom Xbox boot animations from previous console generations and gives players more ways to personalize their profile badges.
Xbox testers can now choose from a curated selection of startup screens, which include:
- The original Xbox One boot screen
- The Xbox One X startup animation
- The original Xbox Series X / S boot sequence
- The new "we are Xbox" boot animation
Unfortunately, users will not be able to select boot animations from the original Xbox or the Xbox 360 era, as support is strictly limited to Xbox One and newer hardware.

Alongside visual nostalgia, the update introduces a brand-new local search feature built to help players navigate through extensive lists of games and achievements. According to the Xbox team, local search operates directly inside My games & apps, official club achievement lists, and profile achievement history, running alongside existing filters and sorting options to help players locate content much faster.
Bringing back legacy startup animations is a clever nod to platform history that taps directly into gamer nostalgia. Coupled with backend technical enhancements like higher Remote Play resolutions and automated background noise reduction, these updates demonstrate Microsoft's continued effort to refine the everyday user experience across both local hardware and cloud ecosystems.
Performance enhancements are also heading to Xbox Remote Play, which will now support up to 1440p resolution alongside improved bitrates on Xbox Series X and S consoles. Furthermore, users leveraging Xbox Cloud Gaming will gain the ability to download games in the background while actively streaming, with downloads automatically throttling whenever necessary.
Additionally, Xbox Series X and S owners can test Voice Clarity, a utility designed to help reduce everyday background noise during chats. Operating similarly to the Voice Clarity feature found in Windows 11 to eliminate echo and ambient distractions, Microsoft states that Voice Clarity will be enabled by default in party chats and the majority of games released since 2020.
