Apple has made its official entry into the foldable smartphone market with the introduction of the iPhone Duo, following years of competitors like Samsung and Huawei leading the category. This major hardware release is the first under the leadership of new CEO John Ternus, who took over the position from Tim Cook on September 1, 2026, bringing an entirely new form factor to the iconic product lineup.
The iPhone Duo adopts a book-style folding mechanism, equipped with a 5.4-inch outer display that occupies roughly 90 percent of the iPhone 18 Pro screen area. When unfolded, the inner display measures 7.6 inches, which Apple claims is the largest screen ever featured on an iPhone, while maintaining the slimmest profile the company has ever engineered. The complex hinge assembly consists of over 100 custom parts, paired with a frame and hinge cover crafted from mirror-polished Grade 5 titanium.
In a departure from traditional modern iPhones, the iPhone Duo replaces Face ID with a touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded directly into the side power button. Users can also unlock the device using an Apple Watch. The device is built with a Grade 5 titanium chassis, protected by Ceramic Shield glass on both the front and back, and utilizes a nano-texture display finish to minimize glare effectively.

Battery life is driven by a dual-cell architecture that delivers up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner screen and up to 44 hours on the outer display, alongside fast charging support.
