Mr. Somchart Techathaworncharoen, a Member of Parliament for Phuket representing the People's Party, has postponed his scheduled witness testimony with the Department of Special Investigation's (DSI) Security Case Division for the third time, citing provincial field duties and official engagements on September 14, 2026.
This ongoing investigation stems from findings by the DSI's Security Case Division indicating that Mr. Somchart is linked to serving as a shareholder director in a private company that holds real estate and condominium units in Phuket alongside foreign nationals.

Currently, the Security Case Division is actively investigating whether any individuals violated the Land Code, specifically focusing on illegal nominee arrangements where locals hold assets on behalf of foreigners. Consequently, a formal subpoena was issued for Mr. Somchart to provide clarifying details.
Nominee property holding cases in major tourist provinces like Phuket remain a critical focus for Thai authorities, as unlawful arrangements can heavily impact the domestic real estate market and land ownership regulations. The involvement of an elected official in corporate directorships under scrutiny highlights the necessity of strict, transparent legal enforcement.
During the initial process, the DSI originally scheduled the first witness appearance for Monday, August 31, 2026. However, Mr. Somchart maintained that the official subpoena had not yet been delivered to his residence, prompting the DSI to reschedule the second appearance for September 7.
During the second notice, Mr. Somchart submitted formal documents requesting a postponement, stating he was occupied with parliamentary duties regarding the second and third readings of the fiscal year 2027 annual expenditure budget bill, leading up to his latest third delay request on September 14, 2026.
