The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has stepped up efforts to position Thailand as a premier international film destination and a hub for film-inspired travel by participating in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026, held from September 10–16 in Toronto, Canada.
Operating under the banner “Amazing Location Thailand: From Scene to Scenic,” TAT is actively connecting international filmmakers and industry executives with Thailand's diverse locations, production capabilities, rich culture, and local communities, transforming onscreen storytelling into real-world travel inspiration.
Mr. Nithee Seeprae, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, stated that Thailand’s appeal as a filming location extends far beyond scenic landscapes and technical capabilities, noting that the local people, culture, and communities provide unique character and depth to any production.
This initiative forms a core component of TAT’s film tourism strategy within the Sub-Culture Economy, one of the five pillars of the Amazing 5 Economy framework. The approach bridges international film production demand with localized tourism interest, driving economic growth across the country's visitor economy.
"Thailand’s strength as a film location goes beyond scenery and production capability. Its people, culture and communities give each destination character and offer creators a deeper sense of place."
Mr. Nithee Seeprae, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications
At TIFF 2026, TAT executed this strategy through a dedicated industry panel, a special Variety Studio interview, a co-hosted networking reception with CULTURED, and a strong presence at the TIFF Market, combining creative dialogue with industry networking.

The industry panel, titled “Amazing Locations: From Scene to Scenic — Place as Character: How Thailand Shapes Global Cinema?,” featured prominent Thai and international industry figures including Banjong Pisanthanakun, Cod Satrusayang, and Raymond Phathanavirangoon, discussing how Thai landscapes and culture enrich global storytelling.
TAT's strategic push at TIFF 2026 highlights the growing importance of film tourism as a powerful driver of Thailand's soft power. By showcasing diverse regional locations alongside comprehensive government support, TAT is effectively converting creative media exposure into tangible, long-term economic benefits for local communities and the broader tourism sector.
