The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is deepening its engagement with the Norwegian travel market through a Thailand Networking Trade & Media event held on September 8, 2026, at the Sommerro Hotel in Oslo. Operating under the banner of "Thailand Beyond the Familiar," TAT introduced fresh tourism offerings focusing on wellness and secondary destinations to convert sustained interest into firm bookings and support year-round travel through 2027.
The gathering brought together 50 tour operators, travel agencies, online travel agencies, airlines, and media partners. The Thai delegation was led by Mrs. Chiravadee Khunsub, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing for Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Africa, alongside Mrs. Paslin Sawetrat, Director of the TAT Stockholm Office. Additional attendees included Mr. Jaturon Phakdeewanit, Director-General of the Department of Tourism and TAT Board Member, and General Suphamanas Pharop.
Mrs. Chiravadee stated that TAT's long-haul strategy for 2027 focuses on growing quality demand by giving travellers more incentives to choose Thailand year-round. In Norway, this involves expanding itineraries beyond conventional locations through wellness, culture, gastronomy, and local experiences while collaborating closely with airlines and trade partners to secure longer stays and higher tourism revenue.

Presenting products across Nordic and Baltic markets, Mrs. Paslin highlighted health and wellness initiatives such as the RXV Wellness Village Sampran in Nakhon Pathom, which integrates medical services, physiotherapy, and sports medicine. The presentation also spotlighted lesser-known regions like Nakhon Si Thammarat in southern Thailand and slower-paced cultural journeys across northeastern Thailand.

The Oslo programme featured personal insights from Norwegian and Swedish travel influencers Merete Moen and Towe Ahlin, followed by a Thai culinary showcase by Chef Terje Ommundsen. Air access remains supportive, with Thai Airways International operating daily direct flights between Oslo and Bangkok alongside seasonal services by Norse Atlantic Airways.
TAT's targeted outreach in Norway under the "Thailand Beyond the Familiar" initiative underscores a strategic shift toward regional dispersal and sustainable year-round travel. This aligns with strong long-term performance data from 2025, which saw long-haul arrivals grow by 10.6 percent despite minor economic headwinds and geopolitical uncertainties experienced in early 2026.
