On September 20, 2026, at Khum Phucome Hotel in Chiang Mai province, Education Minister Prasert Chanthararuangthong presided over the opening ceremony of the regional workshop titled "Empowering School Committees to Elevate Thai Schools Across All Regions" for the Northern region. The event was attended by Ministry of Education executives, school committee representatives, and related agencies.
During the event, Mr. Prasert emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts among school directors, educational service area directors, and school committee members. He noted that these groups serve as vital mechanisms for driving and improving educational quality at the local level. The Ministry aims to strengthen this framework so that all parties can effectively solve problems and advance education together.

The Education Minister also addressed major challenges facing Thailand's education system, citing results from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2025. Although Thailand's overall ranking rose to 53rd, scores in mathematics, science, and reading, along with various indicators, remain below the standards set by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This presents a critical challenge requiring collaborative efforts from all sectors to prepare students for a changing global context.
Empowering school committees is a crucial strategy for decentralized education management. Because committee members originate from local communities, they possess direct insight into regional challenges and student needs. This grassroots connection helps bridge educational gaps and ensures resource allocation is optimized, aligning with global trends favoring community-driven education administration.
