Elon Musk recently disclosed that his tunneling startup, The Boring Company, is actively working on a simplified precursor Hyperloop system designed to connect Austin and San Antonio. The proposed transportation link is intended to slash the travel duration between the two major cities to less than 30 minutes.
The Boring Company's official account amplified Musk's announcement, stating that the firm would be both excited and honored to undertake such a massive infrastructure development if given the opportunity.
Despite the ambitious pitch, many of The Boring Company's previously publicized projects—such as proposed tunnel networks in Chicago, Los Angeles, and between New York City and Washington, D.C.—have yet to materialize. However, the startup does successfully operate a hybrid tunnel and surface transit system in Las Vegas, and it recently closed a $3 billion funding round led by the United Arab Emirates.
