In response to severe dry spells affecting raw water sources in Koh Samui, officials have instructed the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) to execute urgent, multi-dimensional interventions. As a premier international tourism hub, maintaining a reliable water supply is critical for local residents, businesses, and the tourism sector at large, prompting a comprehensive overhaul of distribution and production plans.
To mitigate the immediate shortage, the PWA has been directed to ramp up local production capacities and coordinate the transport of water directly from the Surat Thani branch to Koh Samui. Concurrently, technical teams are accelerating repairs on damaged Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) water treatment plants to restore full operational status.
Beyond physical water transportation, coordination is underway with the Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation Department to launch cloud seeding operations as soon as weather conditions permit. This aims to replenish raw water reservoirs and sustain long-term supplies, while daily progress reports and active public communications are mandated to keep the community informed.

As an island economy heavily driven by global tourism, Koh Samui faces unique logistical hurdles in water resource management. Relying solely on local rainfall and reservoirs is often insufficient during prolonged dry seasons, making inter-basin water transfers via subsea pipelines and advanced desalination or R.O. technologies vital lifelines for municipal stability.
