- Muse reached 2.8 million total global installs in its first 12 days.
- U.S. daily active users hit 642,000, outpacing early ChatGPT figures.
- Meta leverages cross-promotion through Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
Meta's newest artificial intelligence application, Muse, is demonstrating remarkable momentum right out of the gate. According to data from analytics firm Apptopia, the adoption rate of Muse during its initial launch period has successfully outpaced the early mobile performance of OpenAI's ChatGPT, despite the two apps following entirely different initial rollout strategies.
Making an exact comparison between the applications has historically been challenging because of their differing launch approaches. When ChatGPT arrived on mobile, it rolled out globally but was restricted exclusively to iOS. In contrast, Muse launched in the United States and Canada while supporting both Apple's App Store and Google Play. To establish a fair baseline, Apptopia restricted its comparative dataset strictly to iOS data in the U.S. and Canada during the first 12 days of each app's release.
Under this restricted subset, Muse achieved 1.8 million downloads compared to ChatGPT's 1.3 million. Overall, Muse reached 2.8 million total installs globally across its first 12 days, and its growth trajectory shows no signs of slowing down. The application climbed from the No. 2 spot on the U.S. App Store immediately following its debut to secure the No. 1 position, as reported by Business Insider.
Muse's rapid ascent highlights the immense leverage of Meta's massive existing ecosystem. By deeply integrating AI capabilities into platforms with billions of active users like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, Meta can bypass traditional user acquisition hurdles. This gives the company a structural advantage that standalone AI developers often struggle to match without equivalent social graph distribution.

In terms of engagement, Apptopia's data reveals that Muse's U.S. daily active users surpass what ChatGPT recorded at the exact same milestone. Muse drew 642,000 daily users in the U.S. compared to 231,000 for ChatGPT back then. Even when narrowing the comparison exclusively to iOS daily active users, Muse maintains the lead with 359,000 daily users, remaining above ChatGPT's historical figures for that specific timeframe.
Much of this traction stems from Meta's perfected cross-promotion playbook, which previously propelled Instagram's Threads past 500 million users through aggressive marketing and native integrations inside Meta's flagship apps. Because Muse connects seamlessly with those same platforms and integrates within WhatsApp, it stands to benefit from continuous distribution boosts, even though Meta has not yet publicly shared its own adoption metrics.
